Porn Chic really started with release of Gerald Damiano's DEEP THROAT 1972. It made it's star Linda Lovelace a household name. Everybody who was anybody saw it. Ed McMahon loved it. It was the thing to do. The film itself wasn't anything special, it was the fellatio talent of Ms. Lovelace that made it the talk of the town. Damiano followed it up with THE DEVIL IN MISS JONES 1973 something of a real narrative film. Hailing from San Francisco, the Mitchell Brothers broke through with BEHIND THE GREEN DOOR 1973 featuring a young adult film starlet Marilyn Chambers. Marlon Brando starred in LAST TANGO IN PARIS 1972 a critically acclaimed film that featured almost explicit sex. EMMANUELLE 1974 was a huge crossover hit. In 1971Kubrick told a French magazine that he'd been considering the possibility of making a hard-core pornographic film with major stars and a big budget. It only made sense to believe that by the end of the '70s mainstream movies would feature actual fucking and sucking.
Ultimately, only one film was a fully realized manifestation of that assumption. On a coke-fueled ego trip, Penthouse mogul Bob Guccione put up his own money and spent 4 years making the star-studded, 15 million dollar, XXX rated costume epic CALIGULA 1980. At the time it seemed as if porn was going legit, so Guccione bought the rights to Gore Vidal's bio of the Roman nutcase. THROUGH THE LOOKING GLASS 1976 is -dare I say it- a porno masterpiece. Follow "Alice" as she looks into the mirror and enters an unreal world of sexual desire. This flick has developed characters, a plot you can follow, and creative camera work. The ending is an incredible, fully realized depiction of a Dante-like sexual hell, a delirious meeting of the arthouse and the jism-joint. Yep, not your typical smut. In fact, it's often more engaging than most mainstream crap. For more otherworldy smut there's BACHANNALE 1970 a rare example of an art/head/porno flick. All the action takes place in a dreamlike world as we follow a spaced-out woman looking for her dead brother/lover. When she wanders nude into an off-kilter hipster fashion show, she encounters a mysterious black-hooded figure who leads her to a dungeon inhabited by man slaves and a wicked dominatrix. The soundtrack is a druggy mix of whispering voices, air raid sirens, electronic blips, etc. creating an otherworldly atmosphere. The filmmakers worked hard to make a purely surreal, sexually charged nightmare universe and they succeeded. American sexploitation director Joe Sarno had been working in the U.S. scene throughout the '60's when he decided to base his work in Sweden by the '70s. YOUNG PLAYTHINGS 1972. Directed by George Kuchar protege Curt McDowell (RIP) THUNDERCRACK! 1975 is a one of a kind skin flick mixing old dark house horror themes with every deviant act known to man. The icy and arty sexploiter SUGAR COOKIES 1973 is about a pornomaker who gets his kicks from sexual mindgames and murder. Along with fellow Warholite Ondine, Mary Woronov portrays his bitchy accomplice who lures a naive girl into the smut peddler's lair. Gershon Kingsley (of Perrey-Kingsley fame) provides the appropriately unsettling Moog synthesizer score. Lurid and pretentious as only a phony arthouse/sex flick made in 1973 New York could be.
How about some Black Magic Porn. DARK DREAMS 1971 is a cool early example of witchcraft and sex, as Harry Reems and his bride drop by a witch’s house. She promptly drugs them, leading to many lusty hallucinations and mysterious masked figures. THE DEVIL INSIDE ME (METAMORPHOSIS) 1976 is a XXX take on "The Crucible." Set in a New England farm in the early 1800's, a farmer’s daughter has a covert affair with a field hand. A demon in KISS-like make up, possesses his soul eventually taking control of her whole family. Satanic mischief adds an edge to the usual bump and grind in DEVIL'S ECSTACY 1974. Billed as "the first major black erotic film" TONGUE 1975 is also the first and only major black erotic bummer. Quasi is a mute chess-playing brother with a 9-inch tongue and when word gets around town, all the girls want a piece of his action. But even though he's servicing the ladies, he's miserable haunted by inner voices and violent flashbacks. Real odd stuff, especially when Quasi's sitting around playing with his pet frog. LIALEH 1973 is another XXX/blaxploitation hybrid. Virtually plotless, it tells the tale of a pimp who wants to put on a live off-Broadway sex musical. Stone cold funkiness from the pimp's zebra skin jacket to soul drummer "Pretty" Purdie's on stage jam session.

Try to find the completely UNCUT 156 minute version with all the fisting, midget fucking, beheadings, etc.

A lighter tone can be found in ANGEL ABOVE, DEVIL BELOW 1975 a quickie spoof on THE EXORCIST 1973. More of a comedy than a horror/porn hybrid, it's about a young girl who, while masturbating, conjures the Devil himself. He takes residence inside her coochie and proceeds to hurl insults and come-ons to her mom and several doctors hired to cure her. Despite the title, BABY ROSEMARY 1975 is no porn rip-off of the Polanski classic. Steeped in down beat realism and psychosexual surrealism, this flick was obviously lensed by someone with more going on then most pornographers. The sex is set in musty urban settings like apartment hallways and skid row hotels. An orgy in a funeral parlor ends this intriquing smoker.

KING DONG 197? is a good example of how silly things got. From the looks of it, somebody shot a few minutes of stop-frame animation of a big simian and a prehistoric snake. Then some enterprising dorks took this footage and added matte shots of Easter Island and ugly fuck scenes. Entertainingly bad. If you're looking for a XXX spoof of JAWS 1975, check out GUMS 1976. Very loose, wacky stuff about a mermaid sucking-off and castrating the locals of a small resort beachtown. Performance artist and certifiable madman Brother Theodore plays the captain hired to hunt her down. Some highlights; two guys make it with a blowup doll, some dogs screw, and the mermaid swims around some big underwater phalluses. A bunch of puppets pop up some

Sometimes real live porn stars join in the fun as does a puppet doggie. This pic delivers the demented goods. Yet more porno puppetry can be found in Chuck Vincent’s hilarious stop-frame animation short LE TOY SHOPPE 1979 takes us to a toy store after dark wherein dolls get it on with eachother. Well, somebody did and TEENAGE CRUISERS 1977 is a virtually plotless, loosely strung together concoction of found footage, hardcore inserts, goofy gags and silly puns all edited at a fun, fast pace keeping this ridiculousness from getting dull. Johnny Legend stars as a jive talking radio D.J. spinning tunes for all the "cruisers, boogiers and boulevard people." One of them's the sultry adult film sooper minx Serena whose boyfriend showers her with endless streams of baby batter till his van's literally overflowing. We follow some cruisers to a covert screening of a Tijuana donkey show movie with a wacky, surprise twist. Legend continually alerts the public about an escaped nuthouse nympho. We find her holing up with a captive male practicing her technique with a blow job instruction record as dildos slither across the shag carpet. The weirdness peaks when a sweaty, middle aged pervert freaks out at a live rock n' roll patio party, imagining (?) he's being stalked by a menacing, knife wielding ventriloquist dummy. Crazy fuckin' shit, baaay-bay!

Reversing the DEEP THROAT “clitoris in the throat” concept PUSSY TALK 1975 is about, you guessed it, a woman with a talking vagina. It started a curious sex flick sub genre continuing with America's CHATTERBOX 1976. THE KINKY LADIES OF BOURBON ST (WHAT A PERFORMER) 1975 maybe the ultimate French smoker. 
ES FOR ADULTS 1969 the first sexy retelling of classic children's stories. The comely Marie Liljedahl (INGA) stars as a scantly clad Snow White. Lost in the woods, she's accosted by leering dogs, frogs, snakes, and a big bear. The Seven Dwarves, after magically manifesting from some big mushrooms, come to her rescue. The jealous Evil Queen plots to poison Snow and gobble up her sex organs! To assist her in her evil doings, she elicits the help of the Wicked Witch who's busy turning couples into birds and pigs by flicking her tongue into the camera. There's some genuinely nutty little touches making this one stand out from the run-of-the-mill fairy tale skin flick. As when the village bumpkins Hans and Hans find a "crop" of naked children. And you haven't lived til you see Snow exhibit the unorthodox way she milks a cow. Even more perverse are the gory bits, as when we visit an old hag who butchers and eats young girls. And how about Cindrella conjuring her dress for the Ball by wearing a severed finger around her neck! Or when her evil stepsisters slice off their toes and heals to fit into the magic slipper (youch!) Which is in fact, how the original story went before this and other Grimms tales were sanitized for modern consumption. In the end, Prince Charming rouses Snow White through sex, defeats the Witch and frees the captive couples. Elsewhere in the woods, a horny princess passes on kissing a frog, but instead balls a bear transforming him into a prince. And they all fucked happily ever after..gif)
